Helpful Home Appliance Tips from The Original Appliance Parts Pros

  • Clean condenser coils regularly
Dust-free coils (on fridges, dryers, etc.) help appliances run efficiently, reduce energy use, and prevent motors from overworking.
  • Empty lint traps & vents monthly
Clean your dryer’s lint trap after every load, and deep-clean the trap chute and exhaust vent monthly to help prevent fire hazards.
  • Run monthly maintenance cycles
Run an empty load with vinegar or baking soda in your washer or dishwasher once a month to remove odor, buildup, and residue.
  • Inspect and clean door gaskets & seals
Wipe down refrigerator and dishwasher door seals every few months. A tight seal prevents leaks, energy waste, and food spoilage.
  • Avoid overloading & use proper detergents
Don’t overload washers or dishwashers, and measure detergent properly—especially in high-efficiency (HE) machines—to avoid damage and mold.
  • Level & balance appliances
Keep washers, dryers, and refrigerators level to reduce vibration, noise, and premature wear.
  • Replace water filters regularly
Change refrigerator water/ice filters every 6 months (or as indicated) for better taste and to protect valves.
  • Inspect washer inlet hoses
Check hoses yearly for bulges or cracks. Upgrade to stainless braided hoses and replace about every 5 years.
  • Use surge protection
Plug major appliances into a surge protector to protect sensitive control boards from power spikes.
  • Descale for hard water
Run a dishwasher descaler or citric acid cycle every 2–3 months in hard water areas to prevent buildup.
  • Allow proper airflow
Leave 2–3 inches of clearance behind refrigerators and dryers for proper ventilation and to avoid overheating.
  • Test safety outlets
Test GFCI and AFCI outlets in kitchens and laundry rooms once a year to ensure safety devices are working.
  • Check door alignment
Adjust fridge doors so gaskets seal evenly. Replace worn or torn gaskets to reduce energy loss.

Day 1: Fridge is back up and running.

Verified Purchase Posted by Jason Cullison on Aug 24th 2022

This fan isn't quite meant for my fridge and didn't even need the power adapter. This is going into a 2004 model Kenmore Coolspot 106.64263400 but after some modification of the fan blade by drilling a through hole to seat it further down the motor shaft, I got it working. The fridge is now kicking out tons of freezing air in the freezer & pushing cooler air in the fridge. By the looks of it, it seems very close in build quality to the OEM evap motor. I can imagine it's not wise to do what I'm doing, maybe seating the fan lower on the shaft will burn it out faster, or something like that. However, since the fridge it's going in also seems like it's on it's way out I'm not too concerned. I also just needed a replacement motor that was good quality, and would show up within 4 days. Ordered 2 day shipping on a Sunday, & got it Wednesday. Thanks!
