Common Causes
- Broken or worn motor coupling between motor and transmission
- Faulty lid switch not engaging the safety circuit
- Worn agitator dogs causing free-spinning agitator
- Drive belt loose, broken, or off pulley
- Drain obstruction or imbalance sensor issue
How to Diagnose It
- If you hear the motor running but the basket doesn’t move, the motor coupling may be worn out.
- If nothing happens at all, test the lid switch with a multimeter for continuity.
- If the agitator spins freely in both directions, replace the agitator dogs kit.
Quick DIY Steps
- Unplug the washer and pull it away from the wall.
- Remove the control console and release the cabinet clips.
- Access the motor area underneath and inspect the coupling or belt for damage.
- Replace any broken components and reassemble the unit.
- Run a short cycle to test the repair before resuming normal use.
